The Test Kitchen

Restaurant, Cape Town

True to its name, The Test Kitchen constantly seeks to create and innovate. Chef and owner Luke Dale-Roberts described his vision as wanting guests “to be surprised and delighted, to wonder what ingredients we have used and how we made it. It should be an adventure!” It is no wonder the restaurant has received a long list of accolades, including being on the 2016 list of the 50 Best Restaurants in the World.

Whether you opt for a Gourmand, Pescatarian or Vegetarian menu, complete with either tea or wine pairings, each imaginative course is guaranteed to leave you in awe. The Test Kitchen has an extensive wine list, which they have devised using local South African wines that pair perfectly with their grub. Examples of the Test Kitchen’s mouthwatering dishes include the Pan seared kingklip with orange emulsion, turnip and cashew puree, and bbq turnip, or the Semi dried tomato with miso cured cream cheese, textures of kale, and burnt onion.

The locale also happens to be interesting, set in a portion of the sleekly refurbished Old Biscuit Mill, in the trendy Woodstock neighbourhood.

Diners are encouraged to fully immerse themselves in the creativity, with the highly recommended option of sitting at the wooden bar to watch all of the talented chefs at work in the open kitchen. Make sure you reserve, as The Test Kitchen books up extremely quickly, and do so months and months and months in advance!
