The Pudding Shop

Restaurant, Johannesburg

This haven of sweet delights is tucked away in a leafy suburb of Johannesburg, in a rather inconspicuous property – which until inside – doesn’t look like anything much.

Once you step through the doors you walk into a large airy room, with skylights that gives it the feel of being semi al fresco. The walls of the main room are covered in green foliage, creating the effect of a secret garden, or rather a very elegant French garden, offset by pretty mirrors and other pretty details.

As it says on the tin, the pudding shop serves a wonderful selection of naughty indulgences, either to eat in or to buy and take home. Waiting to tempt you are a glorious selection of meringues and fudges, chocolate delights, cupcakes, tarts, and pastries of all sorts.

The Pudding Shop has the feel, both aesthetically and in terms of atmosphere, of a café. A place for mummies to come with strollers and friends, or girlfriends, or a spot to drag your man along to (we certainly wouldn’t describe it as ‘masculine’).  It is the perfect pick for tea and something sweet, however on the menu are also many savoury options – both healthy and sumptuous
