The Pot Luck Club
Restaurant, Cape Town
This rooftop restaurant is a firm favourite on the Cape Town scene. Located in the hip urban hangout of Woodstock, The Pot Luck Club is one of several restaurant created by South Africa’s favourite chef, Luke Dale-Roberts. While his Test Kitchen may lay claim to more official accolades, the Pot Luck Club deserves high praise in its own right.
The restaurant is known not only for having one of the best views of downtown Cape Town, but also boasts the most creative cocktail menu.
The restaurants oozes ‘edgy’ from everything it does – the decor (courtesy of local architect Greg Scot), the glasses in which the drinks are served, the plates for the food, the music, the people, the vibe – and of course the menu.
Designed for sharing, the food menu is a creative concoction of tapas-style dishes that cater to your tastebuds – literally! Choose from menus entitled “salty”, “sweet”, “sour”, “bitter”, “umami” and “sweet ending”. If your palate is calling for something “sweet,” try the burrata cheese, grilled nectarines, rose water and verjuice dressing with pistachio dukkah, or perhaps you are in the mood for “umami,” such as the crispy Kalk Bay octopus, Doenjang mayo, picked cucumber and octopus teriaki.
Accompany it all with some of the wildest cocktails we have ever heard of: top of the list has to be the Thai green curry cocktail (yes, you read that right!). The secret to the success of The Pot Luck Club is most certainly its exceptional imagination.
